Elementary substitute teaching K-6, middle school English/Lang Arts, adult basic education (ABE), GED-prep
Ever since I started teaching, I've deviated from the one-size-fits-all curriculum and created my own variations of lessons that I knew would inspire and meet my students' needs. I'm focusing on offering products that are beautifully designed and differentiated with the SPED student in mind.
2001 Bachelor of Science, Education (Summa cum laude graduate)
I entered the field years ago, wide-eyed and excited to build a loving and nurturing learning community in some early primary grade level, where we'd be cutting and gluing and singing and learning our ABC's. When that position wasn't offered, I entered the world of middle school and I realized I was better suited for older students, in both the rigor of content and my ability to appreciate pre-teens' sense of humor and social-emotional needs. And finally, working with adults in GED-prep classes, who were previously disenfranchised with their own educational experience, has given me a new perspective and approach to instruction.
As a mom of a child with special needs, I appreciate differentiated curriculum. I keep that in mind when I create products. Modifying curriculum takes time and effort.
