ASL Teacher

Ms. Elias is a recent graduate from New York University and a current graduate student at Columbia University. At NYU she majored in Childhood Education/Special Education, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Studies, and American Sign Language (ASL). Ms. Elias decided to take ASL for the first time during her sophomore year of college and was quickly exposed to a new language and community for which she became passionate about. She attended various Deaf Community events around NYC and practiced her signing skills with any deaf or hard of hearing individuals that she encountered. After a year of taking ASL, Ms. Elias decided to work as a Sign Language instructor at The Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf on Long Island, where she taught hearing children ages 6-17 how to sign, working in conjunction with deaf students and deaf teachers at the school. She taught the students how to sign the lyrics to different songs and we even put on a play entirely in American Sign Language. Currently Ms. Elias is a graduate student studying Social Work at Columbia University. She is hoping to further enhance her experience as an educator and continue to positively affect the lives of children and students around her.
