TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 10 years of experience at a fantastic school- the same one that I attended as a child! I began teaching third grade, and after two years moved to a fourth grade self contained gifted and talented class. I teach critical thinking and higher level thinking skills across all subject areas in grade 4, along with accelerated 5th grade Math. I have worked with technology extensively and have always created my own materials. I've also worked as a Mathematics Coach across all grade levels and held several workshops for staff development. I have experience as a Language Arts mentor/staff resource, as well as tutoring experience with students in grades 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I strive to teach to the "21st Century Learner." All of my lessons incorporate some element of technology (but can be adapted based on your school's resources). In order to adequately prepare students for a future immersed in technology, it is vital that this is an integral part of their daily school experience. I encourage exploration with project, problem, and inquiry based learning. I follow many principles of the Responsive Classroom, and feel that my students gain the most from their educational experience when they constantly feel safe and enriched in their learning environment.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Acted as an exemplary Gifted and Talented teacher for administrators in other districts to observe Developed and taught Continuing Education Course: "Blogging, Skype and Beyond," "Structuring the Writing Workshop," and "Launching the Math Workshop." Presented significant classroom events at Board of Education meetings, including but not limited to presentation of board-funded grants Wrote and received grant to participate in Odyssey of the Mind, a worldwide student competition. Students placed first for their age group in Nationals.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended TCNJ, graduating with a BS in Elementary Education and English in 2004. I currently am enrolled in the University of North Texas, taking classes in Gifted Education.
