I have experience teaching mid-level ELAR and Social Studies and am currently a 6th-8th grade counselor.
Teach backwards; know your standards and how your students will be assessed. Then, make it fun! If you aren't having fun, they aren't either, and if they aren't engaged, they aren't learning. A simple reference to trending social media or the latest pop song during your lesson can go a long way with engaging your students! Same goes with counseling! Making group activities fun can promote team building and encourage students to feel more comfortable sharing emotions with others. Checking in with students AND teachers is vital to having positive culture!
