I have taught K-5 general music to 600 fabulous young musicians in St. Louis, MO since 2009. At my school, I also teach an extra-curricular 4th and 5th grade choir as well as a 5th grade percussion ensemble. I enjoy attending all of our local Orff chapter workshops as well as presenting workshops. I have presented workshops in my previous and current school districts, at the MCDA summer conference, and to our local AOSA chapter. I direct a local community children's choir and had the honor of directing the MMEA East Central District's Elementary Choir in 2014.
I use a combination of the Orff and Kodaly approaches. Music literacy is a big focus in my classroom, while allowing students to incorporate their own creative ideas through movement, composition, and improvisation. Music education should celebrate the fun, innocence, and joy of childhood!
