TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my 15th year as an educator. I began as a writing teacher, clueless about reading instruction. I learned how to teach reading and developed such a passion for literacy instruction, I have become a literacy coach. I acquired my National Board Certification in Early Adolescence- English Language Arts in 2004 and a masters in Reading soon after. Over the course of the past 3 years I have been the RTI interventionist and instructional coach for my school. I have been fortunate enough to teach in the same school for all of my career. Some of my work involves data analysis in the form of drilling down to dictate next steps for teaching.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Much of my teaching style has been born from my frustrations as a student. I was not much of a critical thinker/reader/writer or conversationalist in school. Now, as an educator, learning is focused on the exchanges of students through conversation and ensuring that students learn to be analytic thinkers/readers/writers.
