I am currently a middle school Latin teacher in a high needs district. My goal is to make Latin accessible to ALL students, not just the "typical" kid who signs up. My experience is mostly in urban schools with high achievement gaps. I am also a certified ESOL/ENL teacher. Though it has been a few years since I have taught ENL in K-12 schools, I teach it to adults in the evenings through a community education program.
Kinesthetic and active! Lots of TPRS (teaching proficiency through reading and storytelling). Speaking and writing Latin (despite being told that's not the "real" way to teach Latin). Finding the weird thing kids are interested in and creating lessons around them.
Presented at annual NYSAFLT (New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers) in fall of 2014 about teaching Latin in urban schools and helping students with large reading and achievement gaps be successful.
BA in Classics and minor in theater MSEd in Adolescent Latin Education and TESOL
