8 years teaching middle school including 5 years of social studies, two years of special education and one year remediation for struggling students. Most of my experience has been in social studies including world and ancient history and American History.
Socratic. Ask questions let the kids answer and comment on those answers. Facilitate discussion to come to conclusions.
Of all the awards over the years I have received from my various careers and military service, this is the best, a note from a parent: Mr. Wohlgemuth, I want you to know that you made a huge impact on Isaac. You helped him understand that different people have different opinions, and if someone thinks differently, that doesn't necessarily mean they're wrong. You also helped him learn the value of relationships and communication. We talk about you often and, when Isaac is struggling with something, we remind him of how his relationship with you evolved through his year with you and how reality at the end of the year was very different from reality at the beginning of the year. These are life lessons that Isaac will carry with him for years to come. And, I thank you for that! As you close the year, please know that you've influenced as least one student this year, just as you influenced Isaac, and others, several years ago.
Bachelors Degree from Indiana University of Pa in 1976. A teaching certificate from George Mason University 2004. Enough other credits from George Mason, American University, NVCC to gain another degree and probably a masters.
I worked more than 30 years for the Federal Government including 3 nine months and 11 days with the United States Navy much of which was at the Mekong Delta. After that I wanted to do something really relevant so I went back to school to become a teacher. I took a two thirds pay cut and became a teacher in NC and it was the best job I ever had.
