TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My teaching career began in 1996 in Russia. I taught a variety of grade levels- from preK to highschool. I have been in my current school for almost ten years. I started as special education teacher there. When I became a reading specialist seven years ago, my school was low performing. It makes me proud to say, that for the past five years my school has been performing exemplary (the highest academic achievement in Texas). In 2012 my school received a national recognition as a Blue Ribbon school. I teach reading to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My philosophy is that the best way to teach children to read and understand literature is through exposing them to high quality and high interest literature. That is why the biggest part of my reading curriculum is novel studies. I try to get as many class novel sets as I can, so every student in my class has a copy of the book we are reading. I create the novel study guides to keep my students accountable for their work and to prepare them for a success on the state test.
