TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught kindergarten and first grade for 11 years. Then became a kindergarten through 6th grade gifted teacher. Currently, I am serving my county as the Gifted Program Specialist, supervising and coordinating gifted services for more than 2,500 students!

MY TEACHING STYLE

Collaborative and student-led. I love creating engaging centers, games, and activities using the Common Core and Florida Standards. I believe in engaging all modalities to really cement a child's understanding! I'm very inspired by the Growth Mindset.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

-2017 Clay County Teacher of the Year (Teacher of the year representing both my school and county) -Fishman Prize for Superlative Teaching Practice nominee -Two time Teacher of the year nominee -2018 Governors Shine Award -Florida Teacher LEAD Network Alumni

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated with a degree in Journalism from Indiana University. When I moved back to Florida I kind of fell into teaching through the back door and it's a perfect fit. Who knew?? I took Master's classes to complete my teaching certificate and have completed my National Board TakeOne portfolio.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

We need to nurture a culture of perseverance to show our students that ability is not fixed and failure isn't a permanent condition.
