This artifact analysis sheet can be used with multiple items. I designed it for use with River Rocks and used it as part of a literature unit. It could be used with other items since the questions are opinion based and generalized.

I use this activity as a culminating experience after we study chemical reactions.
Students are walked step by step through the process of planning an investigation. They will learn what is an independent and dependent variable. They will use the results of this experiment as evidence when they write a scientific argument about whether or not a chemical reaction takes place to produce the fountain.

This is a terrific way for students to record their observations visually of various experiments and then to explain the process and understanding. This lab worksheet has been used in whole class experiments and in centers. This is a wonderful assessment tool. Very useful for grades 3-6.
