I developed this assignment to help students analyze the diction of "I Want a Wife" by Judy Brady. I use this essay as an introduction to Henrik Ibsen's play, A Doll's House. I have used this assignment with students of all levels in grades 9-12, and they always find it relevant and interesting. Students will be ready for discussion after reading this essay!I recommend following up this lesson with a Socratic Seminar on the text using the work students have done while analyzing the diction.
