A Read Aloud Story - The Incredible Life of Squanto
This is a story that can be read aloud to a class (takes about 6 minutes) or given to the students to read. It's a factual and fascinating account of the life of Squanto - the Wampanoag native who helps teach the Pilgrims survival skills. This powerpoint is an overview of the mentor text, What About Alice? While it incorporates history, it's a delightfully funny book to read aloud! Furthermore, I provide examples of how to extract certain pieces of the text for deeper analysis. I also provide testing as a genre samples of test stem question using specific text from the mentor text. (Cause and effect and repetition, to name a few).
