Rate of Change & Derivatives Guided Notes/Practice

I created this resource as an introduction to derivatives for my precalculus class. It may also work well as cooperative investigation or review in calculus. Students are guided to make connections between slope, average rate of change, and instantaneous rate of change. They then expand on these ideas to create equations for lines tangent and perpendicular to a curve at a given point. This resource includes a Power Point, guided notes section with examples and practice problems for the students

Exponential Equations and Inequalities with Answer Key

This 10-question worksheet contains:4 exponential equations asking students to provide both exact and approximate answers6 exponential inequalities asking students to write their answers in interval notation using both exact and approximate answersAlmost all of the equations and inequalities require students to take the log or natural log of both sides of the equation/inequality and to manipulate in order to solve for the variable.

Logarithmic Equations and Inequalities with Answer Key

This 10-question worksheet/homework/quiz contains:4 logarithmic equations asking students to provide both exact and, where appropriate, approximate answers6 logarithmic inequalities asking students to write their answers in interval notation. These questions ask students to think about the natural domain of the logarithm in context with the answer received when they solve

Logarithms and Exponentials: Evaluate, Properties, Solving with Key

This 20-question assignment could be used as a mini-review or a test. I use it as part of my testing (this is the non-calculator half of the test) before I begin graphing. It consists of:6 simplify problems with exponential expressions, including rational and negative exponents4 evaluate problems with logarithms, including the natural log2 condense problems (use properties of logs to write as a single logarithm)2 expand problems (use properties of logs to expand the expression)6 solve problems

Transformation of functions is often tricky. Print 24”x 36” for an easy to use anchor chart, or print 8 1/2” x 11” to give as handouts for students to use as cheat sheets. Personally, I do both.

Simplifying Trig Expressions -Win the Hearts GAME - FREEBIE

Created by

In this fun Valentine’s themed activity, students will practice simplifying trigonometric expressions using the fundamental Pythagorean, quotient and reciprocal identities. Activity Directions: Students are asked to simplify 12 trigonometric expressions. The corrected equivalent expresssions (the answers) are recorded on twelve of 13 hearts on a given picture. Every time students arrive at a correct answer, they will “win the heart” having this answer written on it. Students are also asked to

Creating and Proving Trig Identities Activity

In pairs, students create identities involving 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 steps and then ask other pairs to prove them. Play continues until time is called. Student should have done some identity proving prior to this activity.
