5th Grade ELA Word Wall Vocabulary Cards Bilingual English and Spanish

Help your ESL and ELL students build vocabulary in reading and writing with these word wall cards!  Great for back to school and to use as a teaching tool throughout the year. 

If you have Spanish speaking ELL students in your classroom, it can be a challenge to make grade level content accessible. This bilingual ELA vocabulary resource is a time saver that can aid in comprehension and reinforce important concepts. 

62 words from the Common Core Reading and Writing Standards for 5th grade are included. Each card contains a vocabulary word written in English and Spanish, as well as a picture explanation (one card does not contain a picture). The Spanish translations and visuals included allow students to activate prior knowledge and make connections to form meaning. 

The cards are categorized by topic and are COLOR coded! The topics included are:

• Verbs found in questions (ex. determine, describe, explain)
• Key reading skills (ex. summarize, point of view, theme)
• Figurative language
• Poetry
• Story Elements
• Types of Writing

On the vocabulary worksheet students define the word, sketch a picture, and find synonyms & antonyms. Great extension practice that can be used with any word!

Use the cards as a teaching tool in a whole or small group lesson to introduce vocabulary students will learn. You can also use the cards to review before an assessment or activity by playing “heads up” or another fun review game! 

Display and create a word wall in your classroom! You and your students can refer to the words during an activity to make connections. The words will be accessible for students when they need them promoting independence and familiarity. The more familiar students are with the words the more confident they will become!

Students can create a personal dictionary in their notebooks with the vocabulary worksheet included. Use as a morning work or end of lesson activity for students to gain more practice with the vocabulary.
