Description

Students sort relations {tables, graphs, equations, mappings, coordinate pairs} into function or not a function categories. This activity is perfect during an introduction to what makes a relation a function and learning different ways to identify a function. The answer sheet (in the thumbnail images) asks students to place a check in the correct category, then write a short explanation for why they chose that category for each relation.

Now also included is a digital GOOGLE Slides version for students working online. Students sort the digital cutouts into "function" or "not a function" categories. Includes both print + interactive digital versions

Understand that a function is a rule that assigns to each input exactly one output. The graph of a function is the set of ordered pairs consisting of an input and the corresponding output.
Understand that a function from one set (called the domain) to another set (called the range) assigns to each element of the domain exactly one element of the range. If 𝘧 is a function and 𝘹 is an element of its domain, then 𝘧(𝘹) denotes the output of 𝘧 corresponding to the input 𝘹. The graph of 𝘧 is the graph of the equation 𝘺 = 𝘧(𝘹).
