Description

In this collaborative activity celebrating Pi Day, students work with the circle formulas to find area, circumference, radius and diameter. Each pennant also includes a Fun Fact that students can read as they complete their circle problems. Once a pennant is complete, it can be hung along a string in your classroom to celebrate Pi Day!

*Some of the circle questions are challenging, such as "Find the circumference of a circle if its area is 25 square metres". Students need to translate between circle formulas to find these answers. Other pennants ask students to find area and circumference given radius or diameter. The questions offer a good mix for different levels of Math ability.

Each group of students can be given a set of pennants, scissors and either glue, tape or a stapler. Students can be in charge of cutting out the pennants. Groups can compete to see which group can complete the most pennants or your entire class can add pennants to one string as they complete each one. You may also choose to have your students colour their pennants to add to your classroom décor.
