I became a Social Studies Teacher since earning my Bachelors Degree in History Education in 2007. I have since earned 3 Masters Degrees in Educational Leadership, Educational Technology, and Interdisciplinary Studies. Over the course of my career, I have taught regular U.S. History, A.P. U.S. History, Integrated Social Science, Human Geography, and an Introduction to American Law.
I use a Power Point Presentation every single day both to clarify the lesson's objectives and guide my actual presentation of material. My presentations begin with a slide stating the Learning Target(s) of the lesson, as well as corresponding vocabulary terms and the day's agenda. I would describe my typical lesson as discussion-based (guided by PPT slides), interrupted with a short activity, video clip, or soundbite.

The last time I taught an AP History class, 77 out of my 78 students took the APUSH national exam. 67.5% earned a 3 or higher as compared to the global average of 53.6%. My school has 28% low-income students. I was incredibly proud of these results. I am fortunate to teach very devoted students! Over the course of my career, I have done a lot of work with staff development. Because of my work in this area, I am confident that my year-long goals, unit overviews, and daily lesson plans are well-designed. I make a concerted effort to align each day's learning target with my long-term course objectives and summative assessments.
