I've been teaching 8th grade for 27 years. For the first six, I taught Language Arts as my major in college was English and, for the last 21, I have been teaching Social Studies. History is my passion and I love bringing it alive for kids. With the new ELA standards, I am taking a proactive approach to bring Close Reading assignments into my classroom, as well as utilizing visual primary souce video to supplement learning. I also have created online curriculum for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade social studies as well as 9th grade science (not sure how I got talked into that)
My style is very interactive and visual. I utilize a lot of video, art, music, primary sources, worksheets, and activities. I rarely use the book, so I love to pull quotes, speeches, and articles to create relevant learning. I am excited to put more rigor into my classes. Join me?
I have received much recognition over the years including multiple articles in the local paper regarding my community service project to send packages to soldiers, Operation American Compassion. I have also been teacher of the year in my district and I've marched in the Fiesta Bowl parade as one of the top ten teachers in my state. I have been awarded a Central Arizona Middle Level Association award and a few Golden Gators from a Xavier College Prep.
Bachelors degree from ASU in Secondary Education, major in English and minor in History. Loads of random classes that have assisted me in a variety of ways :D
I am a divorced mother of twin daughters who are my light. I now have two grandsons. I appreciate this opportunity to supplement my income. Thanks for visiting my page.
