~Currently teaching a class of Grade Two children~ Prior Experience: ~1 year teaching children in Grades One & Two ~2 years teaching children in Grade Five ~2 years teaching Financial Literacy to children in Grades One through Seven ~6 months teaching Physical Education to primary-aged children ~1 year teaching primary-aged children as a Temporary Relief Teacher
From my experience, the first step in capturing a child’s interest is by ensuring that the classroom environment is inviting, vibrant and full of displays that are both educational and aesthetically engaging. I have found that it doesn’t matter what age, colour has the ability to appeal to a child so I try to incorporate as much colour as possible into my resources and displays. Most children are fascinated by anything new or different so I try to add or change something within my classroom each day in order to spark a child’s curiosity and intrigue as soon as they arrive at school each morning. I like to incorporate music, poetry (particularly rhyming verse) and riddles into my teaching because I have found that this has been one of the best teaching strategies for maintaining student engagement and for assisting children in successfully retaining the key information taught.
