--1 year as a substitute teacher for 2 school districts in Texas. --1 year teaching 5th grade science at a Nashville charter school

With a background in forensics I love to frame science units in a way that gets students asking questions and keeping the "wonder" in their minds as they learn and investigate. I love starting with a mystery or problem, and have students build knowledge throughout the unit that they use to solve it. Being a culturally responsive educator is extremely important to me. My style aligns with ensuring my students see and hear from individuals who look like them in different science fields. This is true in my classroom decorations, my lessons, and book available for students in my room.

A part of education very important to me is within the juvenile justice system. Previously I have interned for a juvenile services department where I tutored students in reading throughout the semester, one-on-one taught a student through the second semester of high school chemistry, and founded a college exploration program that hopefully will continue in my absence. In the future I hope to align my forensics background with my new experiences in education to ensure that one day ALL students have access to an excellent education.
