I taught kindergarten for 3 years, and then first grade for another 3. As my family grew in size, I decided to scale back my working hours. Now I substitute up and down the grade levels of my old school--and I always keep a box of push pins and a stack of push pin art in my sub bag! I am passionate about teaching students fundamentals skills in engaging ways.
I strive to address my students' emotional well being while maintaining the rigor necessary to meet common core standards. I believe that giving children a social, tactile, or otherwise memorable experience is worth a thousand worksheets!

I graduated with my BA in English and minor in Linguistics from Brigham Young University in 2010. I got my California state teaching credential from Cal State East Bay in 2014 and went on to get my masters degree in Reading Instruction in 2015.
I grew up helping in my mother's kindergarten classroom. After college I became her daily aid and created unique push pin art for her students. It was always the students' favorite activity! I now use it in my own classroom. It is one of the main ways I have of addressing fine motor skills and working on hand/eye coordination. My students look forward to each new unit with its accompanying push pin art and my windows are always covered in their beautiful, seasonal designs.
