TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am presently an Assistant Professor at New Mexico State University where I have been developing courses in Geographic Information Systems and Geology. I have over 20 years of experience teaching at the high school, middle school and elementary school levels. Here is a summery of my experience: 1- HOMESCHOOL: I home schooled K-8, and taught science classes at our co-op. The classes I taught included: Oceanography for girls (gr. 3-5); Structures (gr. 3-5); Energy (gr. 3-5), Life Science (gr. 6-8); Kitchen Chemistry (gr. 6-8); Earth Science (gr. 6-8), Waves (gr. 3-5). (8 years experience) 2- HIGH SCHOOL: I taught high school Physics, Earth Science, Algebra I, Algebra II, Financial Algebra, Engineering Design and Space Technology and Engineering. When you teach at a small school, there is great opportunity to have a varied class load...all the preps are crazy though! (5 years experience) 3 - COLLEGE: I have taught off and on at Tallahassee Community College in Florida, in subjects of Earth Science and Environmental Geology. At New Mexico State University, I teach The Dynamic Earth, Survey of Geology, Introduction to Astronomy and Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS). 4 - OTHER STUFF: I am the coach for the JPII Florida Astronaut Challenge Team, and the Cyber Patriot team. At NMSU, I was the faculty sponsor for the STEM club. I also have done lots of outreach events with various age groups, topics include: robotics, using Google Earth for science, hands-on experiments in Earth Science.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Classical, inquiry-based, project oriented, hands-on, 5 Es. I like to "get out there!" At a volcanoVLAFlying the Shuttle
