36 years experience teaching struggling learners. My students have always ranged from well above average to below average cognitive functioning.In most cases, my students have had learning deficits that affect processing speed as well as long and short term memory. 3rd - 5th grade: 13 years 6th - 8th grade: 6 years 9th - 12 grade: 17 years

My teaching style is to fully develop a sequence of lessons that: 1) Provide the necessary remediation of prerequisite skills and concepts 2) Progress in difficulty to ensure even my AP students are consistently challenged 3) Ensure that even my struggling learners become skilled at applying learning to solving rigorous real world problems. I am careful to design the lessons in a way that breaks learning down into smaller manageable chunks for my cognitively low students while allowing my more advanced students to progress at a much faster pace to ensure they are fully prepared for standardized testing.

Sorry not my thing. While I have been nominated several times for teacher of the year, I was never comfortable with the idea of then having to write volumes about how great I am in order to actually receive an award.
