TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching professionally for over 30 years. I taught in the K-12 public school system in California for 12 years. Since then I have taught in Teacher Preparation Programs at California State University, Fullerton and at Utah Valley University. In 2012 I wrote a textbook for Pearson Education. I am especially passionate about making science instruction meaningful and engaging. I also am a big fan and supporter of interactive notebooks and believe they are a great way to have students reflect on their learning.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I think learning needs to be engaging and fun for both the student and the teacher! I love a hands-on approach! I also enjoy integrating subject matter. I often include reading informational text articles along with my hands-on science lessons. I think they compliment each other well and the hands-on science makes the students curious and interested in reading the informational text in order to find out more about the topic.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have won two awards for my research presentation on Interactive Notebooks. In 2020 I won the Faculty Excellence Award for Outstanding Teaching at Utah Valley University.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY
