I am currently reliving second grade for the 7th time (including my 7 year old experience) and I love teaching this age! I enjoy the reflective and problem solving aspect of being a teacher. Every year I learn so much. My current endeavor is differentiating for a class that I'm providing gifted and ESOL services for. While I was worried by the challenge, the more I teach the more it becomes obvious that best practices are best practices.
Practice makes better. My students were struggling in writing last year and I asked myself "How much are my students actually writing?" How many opportunities had I given for them to compare and contrast, persuade, explain and analyze through writing? Since I found the problem, my goal has been creating creating experiences for them to write and to allow them to integrate their writing practice in the areas of social studies and science.
My students have told me that I am the funniest....well, ok, I told them that, but then they laughed. :)

I believe that the more creativity and thought students put into their work the more they learn. As we have all learned though, giving students these experiences take dedicated planning. I strive to create materials that help my students reach high levels of thinking and high levels of success!
