I am a 5th year teacher currently located in rural Western North Carolina. The first 4 years of my teaching experience I worked with 7th and 8th Graders in the resource and inclusion setting for both math and ELA. Now, I work with high schoolers on occupational preparation, US History and Civics, and Math 1.
The main way that I have found to keep students engaged and willing to learn is to focus on relationship building first. Even through remote learning, I have been able to foster respect and understanding between myself and my students. When they respect you, they will get their work done with effort.
