Geometry Project - Geometry Town

Created by
Judy and Brett
Students will create a town map made of different geometric figures. They will demonstrate their knowledge of parallel and perpendicular lines, acute and obtuse angles, geometric shapes as well as many other geometric concepts through this creative and fun project. This project can be adapted to higher level geometry courses and high school classes. You can add parameters to the geometric shaped buildings (ex. must label the dimensions of the building given a certain area or perimeter).

This EIGHT PROJECT BUNDLE (!!!!!) will keep your Algebra 1, Geometry, or Algebra 2 students busy for the last 1 - 3 weeks of school doing either independent or group projects, with or without access to technology. Projects include rubrics and grading criteria for the most part, although I sometimes just grade this with a daily participation grade rather than for correctness. Project topics include: - Area and Perimeter -- Design Your Own Playground! - Linear Modeling -- Human Height and Bone Le

Any chance I can to give students the ability to be creative in math, I take it! This is an enrichment project I use during my Pythagorean Theorem unit. Students are tasked with applying their knowledge of the Pythagorean Theorem to create a Wheel of Theodorus. The download is a word doc., so you have the ability to edit it to fit the needs of your classroom.

Coordinate Geometry Project (Slope, Midpoint, Distance, Quadrilaterals)

This was half the project I use for my coordinate geometry chapter. (The other half comes from my textbook and is a coordinate proof). Students are given 4 unique coordinates and asked to plot, find distance, slope, midpoint, analyze data to determine which quadrilateral they have. What makes this different from similar products: each student receives their own coordinates (up to a class of 30 students). This allows students to work together without tempting them to copy. Included is an

A fun way for students to discuss triangle congruency! Students are tasked with folding an origami ornament to hang on our "Geometree". When presenting this mini project, you can discuss how precision and congruence are a huge part of origami and that students should be on the look out for the content discussed with regard to congruence in the course such as SAS, SSS, etc, reflexive property, angle and segment bisectors and more. After folding, students will present their ornament and discus

This PowerPoint presentation uses animations to demontrate 3 types of tranformations: translations, rotations, and reflections. Students can actively create their own transformational shape that can then be translated, rotated, or reflected to build a tessellation. Turn Geometry into a fun art project where students can add color to their tessellation to create an image out of te transformed shape. I like to call this activity Putt-Putt-Geometry. It is 9 glorious holes of trigonometry application! This works great as a Trig unit project, end of year project, or test review (maybe 1 or 2 holes for review). The students can work in groups, pairs, or individuals. If your students are not proficient with Trig, or you have not covered it yet, each hole can be done using the Pythagorean Theorem instead - simply tweak the directions a bit. I hope your students enjoy this as much as mine do!

By constructing their animals they are practicing measuring with a ruler (using both metric and English measurements) and using a compass. This is also great review for circle vocabulary such as radius and diameter. This activity includes the instructions for a bear, panda, turtle, pig, frog, and lady bug. Each animal has the dimensions for all body parts.
