Do your students have difficulty giving credit where credit is due? When they do try to cite their sources, does it sound contrived? This power point has several examples of how the authors of some Time For Kids articles cite their sources. With the push for students to write in argumentative mode and use text evidence, this is a critical skill to teach even in the elementary grades.

What About Alice? book talk and practical suggestions: text features and craft
This powerpoint is an overview of the mentor text, What About Alice? While it incorporates history, it's a delightfully funny book to read aloud! Furthermore, I provide examples of how to extract certain pieces of the text for deeper analysis. I also provide testing as a genre samples of test stem question using specific text from the mentor text. (Cause and effect and repetition, to name a few).
Kids LOVE this book, and the illustrations are precious.
