Parenting styles have been described by numerous researchers. According to Diana Baurnrind (1991) however, the styles adopted by parents are basically attempts to control and socialize children. Thus, the parenting styles she describes capture two important elements of parenting, that is, parental responsiveness and demands. Parental responsiveness is also referred to as parental warmth or supportiveness while parental demand is referred to as behavioural control.
