Musical Instruments of the Orchestra Student Portfolio
This is a portfolio that can accompany a unit on instrument families. It includes one page for each of the four families which provides an outline for students to fill in as the teacher presents the lesson. It can be adapted and used as a lab or experiment for older students if stations are an option. The families are color coded to help with recall. Scales Club - Essential Elements for Strings
Motivate your students to memorize your scales and become members of the SCALES CLUB! Scale levels are divided into bronze, silver, and gold and are adaptable to your classes/students depending on the method book they currently use. Scales align with the scale pages in Essential Elements Book 2 (Purple), Essential Technique Book 3 (Green), and Advanced Technique Book 4 (Gold). Charts include a section to write the exercise numbers, and date passed off for the teacher to sign.

JW Pepper Chorus Project
This is a project that I use with my middle and high school choirs, but it could easily work in a general music setting as well. In this project, students explore the choral music website, JW Pepper. They look through choral music and select three songs that are of interest to them. They then fill out the information on the project worksheet and explain why they chose each of the three songs. Music History Timeline Project
This project allows students to have a snapshot of each musical time period.
This can be an individual project or group project. Students research and fill out each time period's box. I have posters in my room with all the information on them, but students can go online and research as well. I also like to have students cut out each box after they have filled them in and create a visual timeline on posters/paper. This can be as extensive or simple of a project as you'd like!

This template is to be used for the GIST protocol. Students are given a piece of reading (article, website, etc) and are then asked to identify "5 Ws and 1 H" (who, what, when, where, why, and how) and complete a template with the corresponding information they have found in the reading.
