TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I'm in my 15th year of teaching 7th and 8th Grade Language Arts. In the past few years I have created a highly successful intro to leadership curriculum which has been adopted at our school as a mandatory class for all incoming 7th graders.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a personable and easy going teacher within the context of a highly functioning classroom, but instill quite a bit of structure to ensure a healthy classroom environment. My highest objectives are to engrain in students a true sense of independence to apply the skills and concepts taught in my classroom to their own experience beyond the year they spend with me.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

My evaluations have been consistently graded as exemplary for both my instruction and classroom management.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended Western Washington University where I majored in English Literature with an emphasis on Education. I completed my Master in Teaching immediately following and am Washington State certified in secondary Language Arts and Middle Level Social Studies.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I'm an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoys kiteboarding, downhill mountain biking, snowboarding and hiking. I believe in a classroom where students feel safe and respected, where wrong answers are never handled punitively, but rather as an opportunity for learning.
