R.A.C.E. Song for Constructed Responses
I wrote this song to help my students remember the steps to writing a constructed response. This is a new concept to them and they need to be prepared for the new state test, Georgia Milestones. They will RESTATE the question, ANSWER the question, CITE evidence from the text, and EXPLAIN their answer.

Man in the Mirror Reflection
Students follow along to the lyrics as they listen to "Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson. Students reflect on the meaning of the song and apply it to themselves. Teachers are also presented an opportunity to discuss figurative language, grammar, and poetry as well as ample connections to the real world.

Music is a great way to remember facts and processes, so when my middle school students struggled with remembering the basic process and format for a 5 paragraph essay, I decided to put the information to music. Why “this” activity?I recently noticed in my 7th & 8th graders summary writing, they struggle to recognize and eliminate redundant phrases. Rather than drill and kill with redundancy examples, I was hoping to find something they might enjoy while linking to a cultural reference. Since I teach in SW Missouri, country music is an easy link to make for my kids.
