The Island of Earth & Beginning of Time ~ a story of a Native American myth

This is a nice little story based on a Cherokee myth about the beginning of time. I originally wrote it for my 2nd grade class to learn proper nouns and thought it was also nice as story by itself. Plus, it got me drawing again, and even though I've seen better illustrations, they are mine and were fun to do. This can also be used for Thanksgiving! Thanks for your time, and enjoy :-) ~ Adam Stuart

Be the First to Set Foot in America! - A Skit Using Collective Nouns

How do you teach history and social studies in a way that is fun, interesting and meaningful? Impossible you say? Not if you really put your students and children there! And not just on the first page of a chapter with a “You Are There” blurb, and then drudging them through boring and disconnected facts about the past they either won’t remember or won’t connect with in any meaningful way. In this activity, that you can do in the classroom or in your living room, they really get to understand wh

How do you teach history and language arts in a way that is fun, interesting and meaningful? Impossible you say? Not if you really put your students and children there! And not just on the first page of a chapter with a “You Are There” blurb, and then drudging them through boring facts about the past and parts of speech that they either won’t remember or won’t connect to in any meaningful way. A Language Arts Activity ~ The Great Feast of Wampum Wealth

This is a really fun way for your students to practice their spelling, grammar, and vocab words. It can even be used for math, science, reading and social studies. The class gathers around a Native American campfire and one-by-one takes turns spelling or defining the words they're using in class. The winner gets all the wampum and is crowned the Great Warrior of the Feast! Perfect for a Thanksgiving activity as well. Thanks, Adam and the School of Athens :-)

I created a week long thematic integrated unit plan for Thanksgiving. This unit focused on the friendship between the Pilgrims and Native Americans. The students learned a different aspect of the story each day. They drew what they learned on a piece of fabric throughout the progression of the story as we discussed the lesson each day. The end result was a four piece quilt of the Thanksgiving Story.
