Originally as a third grade level take home assignment but could also be completed in class. The project gives the students a choice of how to show their knowledge about the branches of government. It can be done using a provided social studies text book or students can research the information on their own. Documents include description of project (Spanish copy included), an information organizing sheet and answer key, and rubrics for all three project options.

This is an editable rubric to be used for a project where kids pretend to be representing a state that is seceding from the Union (during the Civil War). The one attached is for South Carolina, but can be edited to fit whatever state you choose to have secede. Students type their secession notice (I tea stained them after printing) and they explain why they're seceding, information about the abolitionist movement, and information about each state's rights during that time period.
